1

Arrive at Trivandrum Airport. Travel by boat to an island where you will stay in a floating cottage on the water's edge. Thatched with grass and built in true traditional Kerala style, these houses will truly lull you to sleep with a gentle swaying movement. Don't worry. They're as safe as houses, you might say! Kovalam.

2

Swim around the island, in the swimming pool with swim-up bar, suntan on the balcony of your floating cottage. Enjoy the Kerala sunshine and all the facilities of this spectacular resort.

3

Sightseeing begins with a trip back to Trivandrum to view the temple which dominates the city, the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Once the home to the maharaja of Travancore, the city still has old palaces like the Kowdiar Palace and the Kanakakunnu Palace. Lunch at a Brahmin-run vegetarian restaurant where you can sample ten or more curries thali-style. Then it's on to the narrow streets of Chalai Market where you can walk around the vegetable stalls and pick up some knick-knacks but most of all, feel the hustle and bustle that is the real India. Dinner in the quiet serenity of a rooftop restaurant.

4

Do an early morning bird watch from your island retreat, then relax with an Ayurvedic Foot Massage and oil bath. Lunch on the balcony of your floating cottage. Rest of the day at leisure.

5

It's time to investigate another Kerala beach. Not that there's any shortage. Kovalam's naturally sheltered bay is home to one of the finest beaches in India. Wander along the sea front and gaze at the azure waters from a beach front restaurant. Listen to the fishermen chant their work songs as they haul in their catch. In the evening you can choose your own fish from any of the local restaurants. Have a one-to-one Yoga class and curl up for a good night's sleep in a cliff-top Heritage Hotel.

6

At leisure. Sun tanning, Massage, shopping, eating.

Travel by roomy taxi to the southernmost      tip of India, the rocky cliffs of Kanyakumari associated with the goddess, Kumari where the three great Indian waters meet, the Bay of Bengal, The Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. Visit the Padmanabhapuram wooden palace, Gandhi Mandapam and the Vivekananda rock temple before you witness the most spectacular sunset of a lifetime in a sacred spot at India's land's end. Enjoy your sleepy trip back to Kovalam.

8

It's time to explore the roads to Kollam (Alumkadavu boat jetty) by car and begin an overnight cruise by houseboat on the beautiful Kerala backwaters. The lush palms, coconuts, even the villagers on the riverbank will enthral you. Your own staff of three will look after you and serve you fresh vegetable curries, grilled fish, fluffy rice pancakes. Here you get a real glimpse of village life as the ladies wash their clothes on the river bank and the men punt past in light traditional fishing boats. Before you drop anchor for the night there may be a stop at a toddy (alcoholic drink made from tapping coconut) shop…… Sleep like a baby in the heart of the Kerala backwaters

9

Early morning sun tan on the deck and before lunch you will disembark at Alleppey. Check into a Heritage Home overlooking the beach for lunch, stroll along the seafront afterwards. Rest of the day for exploring this 'Venice of the East' with its canals and lively markets followed by a trip to a temple for an evening puja
